Becoming a parent soccer coach is an exciting opportunity! It can also become a daunting task if it’s your first time, have a large team to manage, or just have a busy schedule in your everyday life. On top of managing a team, you may be responsible for finding supplies, including the right soccer coaching gear. Here is a list of supplies that you would likely need for the season to ensure you have the items needed to coach. We’ve also made it easier to shop for some of these products through our own store or through some of our affiliates.
Our Soccer Coaching Gear Essentials
Soccer Balls: Essential for practices and drills. It’s good to have several in various sizes, especially if coaching different age groups. (We got you covered, but feel free to check around). Different colors are important as well, as kids would like to chose a soccer ball to practice with that resonates with them. If you have kids (we do, just speaking as a company :-), then you might want to have two of each color!
Cones: Useful for setting up drills and defining boundaries on the field. hey are versatile, lightweight, and easy to set up for various exercises and games.
Bibs/Pinnies: Necessary for distinguishing teams during practice matches and drills. They should be lightweight, breathable, and in different colors for easy team identification.
First Aid Kit: Safety first! Always have a well-stocked first aid kit for any minor injuries.
Water Bottles, Sports Drink and Cooler: Keeping players hydrated is crucial, especially on hot days.
Some sports drinks include Gatorade, Powerade, and Body Armour
Clipboard with Paper and Pen: For planning sessions, noting attendance, and making strategic notes. Helps in keeping the training sessions organized.
Whistle: To get attention during practices and manage drills.
Portable Goals/Mini Goals: Great for small-sided games and specific goal-scoring drills.
Ball Pump: To ensure all balls are adequately inflated. A dual action pump inflates the ball on both the push and pull actions, making them quicker and more efficient. Also having a pump with a secure place for the needle ensures that it won’t become lost when needed.
Coaching Manual or Drill Guide: To help plan effective and varied training sessions.
Sunscreen and Bug Spray: For outdoor protection, especially during summer months.
Portable Bench or Chairs: For the team to rest during breaks.
Tactics Board / White Board: For explaining strategies and positions to players.
Soccer Coach Bag: A coach bag should be spacious enough to carry all essential coaching equipment like balls, cones, and first aid kits. It needs to be durable to withstand regular outdoor use, and organized with multiple compartments for easy access to items.
Soccer Coach Hat: A good coaching hat should offer protection from the sun, ideally with a wide brim. It should be made of breathable, moisture-wicking material to keep you comfortable during long sessions. An adjustable fit and water-resistant cap is beneficial for varying weather conditions and ensuring a comfortable fit throughout the game or practice.
Communication Device: A phone or walkie-talkie to communicate with team members or parents, especially during away games or tournaments.
Remember, the specific needs can vary depending on the age and skill level of the team you’re coaching. It’s also a good idea to communicate with any co-coaches or the league to see if there are specific requirements or provided equipment. Good luck with your coaching journey!
