Gallbladder 31 (GB 31), known as Fengshi, is a point located on the lateral aspect of the thigh. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it is most commonly used to dispel wind and alleviate itching, numbness, and pain along the Gallbladder channel. Clinically, it is especially helpful for lateral thigh pain, sciatica-type symptoms, and dermatological conditions involving itching.

Location

GB 31 is located on the lateral thigh.

To locate it:

  • Have the patient stand upright with arms relaxed at their sides.
  • The point is found where the tip of the middle finger naturally touches the thigh. It lies approximately 7 cun above the popliteal crease, along the line connecting the greater trochanter and the lateral epicondyle of the femur.1
  • Anatomically, it lies in the region of the iliotibial band and vastus lateralis muscle.
