WHITTIER, Calif., CHICAGO, and SAN DIEGO (October 20, 2025) — In a major step forward for integrative health education, Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) and Pacific College of Health and Science (PCHS) have signed an agreement through which SCU will assume control of PCHS’s Chicago and San Diego campuses.

As part of this merger, SCU will also take over the Pacific Center for Lifelong Learning, PCHS’s online Cosmetic Acupuncture Program, and the Pacific Symposium—the nation’s largest and most respected Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) conference, known for bringing together nearly 1,000 practitioners and educators each year.

The PCHS New York campus will remain independent, continuing its programs in acupuncture, nursing, and massage therapy.

According to both institutions, this collaboration strengthens their shared mission to advance integrative, whole-person healthcare education. It’s a move that will create new opportunities for students, faculty, and alumni while solidifying SCU’s role as a national leader in TCM and integrative medicine.

Key Highlights of the Transition Include:

  • Expanded Programs: SCU plans to introduce new degree and certificate offerings at the Chicago and San Diego campuses.
  • Leadership in TCM: With this transition, SCU becomes the largest accredited TCM program in the U.S., combining expert faculty, clinical training, and research excellence.
  • Broader Opportunities: Students and faculty will gain access to more interprofessional learning experiences and professional development.
  • Unified Alumni Network: Graduates will join a nationwide network of healthcare professionals with shared values in integrative medicine.

Dr. John Scaringe, President and CEO of SCU, stated:

“We are creating a national hub for TCM education, innovation, and advocacy—expanding our reach and influence on integrative, whole-person care.”

Meanwhile, Malcolm Youngren, President of PCHS, emphasized the opportunity for PCHS to deepen its focus in New York:

“By partnering with SCU, we ensure that our Chicago and San Diego campuses can continue to grow, while we expand our integrative nursing and acupuncture initiatives in New York.”

Pending regulatory approval, the official transition is expected in May 2026. Both institutions expressed a united commitment to shaping the future of healthcare by integrating conventional and traditional modalities for whole-person healing.
