Acupressure

Improve Digestion Quickly With These Three (3) Acupressure Points

Digestion plays a pivotal role in our overall well-being. When the digestive system operates smoothly, we feel more energized and experience fewer discomforts. Acupressure, an ancient healing technique rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), offers a natural and effective way to promote better digestion. In this article, we’ll explore three key acupressure points that can help enhance digestive health and vitality.

1. Stomach 36 (ST 36) – Leg Three Miles

  • Location: Stomach 36 is located on the lower leg, approximately four finger widths below the kneecap and one finger width to the outside of the shinbone (tibia).
  • Functions:
    • Boosts digestive energy (Qi) and relieves indigestion.
    • Strengthens the Spleen and Stomach meridians, which are essential for digestion.
    • Alleviates bloating and abdominal discomfort.
    • Enhances overall energy and vitality.

How to Apply Light Pressure:

  1. Sit or lie down comfortably.
  2. Use your thumb or index finger to apply gentle pressure to the ST 36 point.
  3. Apply light pressure in a circular motion, gradually increasing the intensity until you feel a mild, comfortable sensation.
  4. Maintain the pressure for 5 seconds, taking slow, deep breaths.
  5. Repeat on the other leg.

2. Spleen 9 (SP 9) – Yin Mound Spring

  • Location: Spleen 9 is situated on the lower leg, approximately three finger widths below the kneecap and one finger width to the inside of the shinbone (tibia).
  • Functions:
    • Harmonizes the Spleen and Stomach meridians, aiding digestion.
    • Relieves abdominal pain and discomfort.
    • Supports the body’s ability to transform and transport food.
    • Enhances overall digestive function.

How to Apply Light Pressure:

  1. Find a comfortable position.
  2. Use your thumb or index finger to gently press SP 9.
  3. Apply light pressure in a circular motion, gradually increasing the intensity until you feel a mild, soothing sensation.
  4. Maintain the pressure for 5 seconds while taking slow, deep breaths.
  5. Repeat on the other leg.

3. Large Intestine 4 (LI 4) – Union Valley

  • Location: LI 4 is situated on the hand, in the webbing between the thumb and index finger, where the bones of the two fingers meet.
  • Functions:
    • Promotes smooth bowel movements and relieves constipation.
    • Alleviates abdominal pain and discomfort.
    • Balances the digestive system.
    • Reduces stress and tension, which can impact digestion.

How to Apply Light Pressure:

  1. Sit comfortably and locate LI 4 on your hand.
  2. Use your thumb to apply gentle pressure to the point.
  3. Apply light pressure in a circular motion, gradually increasing the intensity until you feel a mild, relaxing sensation.
  4. Maintain the pressure for 5 seconds while taking slow, deep breaths.
  5. Repeat on the other hand.

Incorporating acupressure into your daily routine can be a valuable tool for promoting better digestion and overall health. Remember that acupressure should not cause pain, and if you have specific digestive concerns or medical conditions, consult with a healthcare professional or acupuncturist for personalized guidance. By stimulating these acupressure points, you can help your digestive system operate at its best, leading to a happier and healthier you.
